Theme of the Year:Tokenization and Digital Assets Revolution
How can tokenization of real-world assets and digital money drive the next wave of financial innovation in Hong Kong?
Background
The HSUHK Inter-University FinTech Innovation Competition 2026 is excited to spotlight the immense potential of financial technology (FinTech) in driving Hong Kong’s position as a leading global financial hub. Tokenization of real-world assets (RWAs) and digital money represents a transformative frontier, enabling fractional ownership, faster settlement, enhanced liquidity, and broader access to traditionally illiquid assets such as real estate, bonds, funds, and commodities through blockchain technology.
This year, the Competition encourages students to explore how tokenization and digital assets can address key challenges and unlock new opportunities in Hong Kong’s financial ecosystem. Participants are invited to develop groundbreaking solutions that facilitate efficient asset issuance and trading, improve settlement processes, enhance regulatory compliance, promote financial inclusion, and integrate with existing payment systems like the Faster Payment System (FPS). Particular attention should be paid to the innovative use of tokenization in areas such as tokenized deposits, money market funds, green bonds, and programmable payments, fostering collaboration between financial institutions, businesses, and investors while driving sustainable economic growth and innovation in Hong Kong.
