CUPP 2024

Background

The 2024 Cyberport University Partnership Programme (CUPP), a FinTech-focused entrepreneurship initiative, emphasized Web3 technologies, including decentralized applications and blockchain innovations. HSUHK students participated in pre-camp nurturing sessions on Web3 trends, followed by a Web 3.0 Entrepreneurship Boot Camp at Draper University in Silicon Valley, USA. This boot camp provided hands-on training in FinTech, AI, and blockchain for entrepreneurship, with mentorship from industry elites.

HSUHK Teams Shine in CUPP 2024

HSUHK celebrated a successful debut in CUPP as a co-organising university. Two student teams achieved outstanding results, with one shortlisted among the top 20 and another among the top 10 out of 11 participating universities in Hong Kong.

Team "Webminds"

Consisting of four students from the Department of Economics and Finance (EAF) and one from the Department of Supply Chain and Information Management (SCM), led by Dr Andy Cheng (Associate Head and Associate Professor of EAF) and Dr Jason Liao, the team’s project focused on ‘Tourist Home Sharing.’ They researched home exchange on Web 3.0 to solve accommodation issues in the travel industry. This innovative approach simplifies the exchange process, reduces costs for travelers, and provides additional accommodation options for tourists.

Team "Earnet"

Co-led by Dr Fanny Chan (Head and Associate Professor of the Department of Marketing), the team included Year 4 BBA-MKT student Jeffrey Wong and a master’s degree student from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Their project centered around a “Web3 Freelancer Platform.

Both teams were shortlisted and participated in workshops and the Web 3.0 Entrepreneurship Boot Camp at Draper University in the USA, demonstrating remarkable growth and dedication. Team “Earnet” was awarded a HK$100,000 grant from the Cyberport Creative Micro Fund.

Dr Cheng attended the boot camp to provide mentorship and learn Web 3.0 in association with FinTech entrepreneurship skills, supporting future HSUHK teams. He noted that both teams performed exceptionally, immersing themselves in learning, engaging with experts, and showing dedication, teamwork, and a strong grasp of concepts.

This achievement highlights the teams’ dedication and excellence in innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as HSUHK’s commitment to fostering an entrepreneurial spirit through accessible FinTech education.
