About the Competition :
The HSUHK FinTech Innovation Competition, organized by the Department of Economics and Finance (EAF), aims to promote a culture of innovation and creativity among universities students, the competition seeks to raise students’ awareness of critical development in FinTech, both locally and globally. Through comprehensive training in various modes and selected themes, and a showcase of project proposals through on-stage pitching, the competition aims to significantly enrich the student FinTech learning experience.

FinTech Applications in GBA
- How Banks in Hong Kong Develop Cross Border Financial Services in Greater Bay Area (GBA) through FinTech Application?
Background :
The HSUHK FinTech Innovation Competition 2025 is excited to spotlight the immense potential of financial technology (FinTech) in the context of the Greater Bay Area (GBA). As one of the most dynamic and economically vibrant regions in the world, the GBA encompasses Hong Kong, Macau, and nine cities in Guangdong Province, fostering a unique environment for innovation, cross-border collaboration, and technological advancement. With its strategic position as a global financial and technological hub, the GBA offers unparalleled opportunities to explore and expand the applications of FinTech.
This year, the Competition encourages students to focus on how FinTech can address the unique challenges and opportunities in the GBA. Participants are invited to develop groundbreaking solutions that facilitate cross-border financial services, enhance regulatory compliance, improve payment systems, and enable seamless financial integration across the region. Particular attention should be paid to the innovative use of technology in fostering collaboration between financial institutions and businesses across borders, promoting financial inclusion, and driving sustainable economic growth in the GBA.
The Competition is also your platform to reimagine the future of FinTech in the Greater Bay Area. Seize this opportunity to showcase your creativity, technical expertise, and vision for a connected and thriving financial ecosystem. Together, let’s shape the next chapter of FinTech innovation in one of the world’s most exciting economic regions.

Project submission deadline
Project submission deadline : 16 May 2025 23:59 (Friday)
All the shortlisted team, will be informed in the week of 23 May 2025.
Submission Guidelines
- Submit the PDF presentation and any related files (e.g., videos) via email to florenceli@hsu.edu.hk
- The deadline for submission is 16 May 2025, 23:59 (Friday).
Eligibility:
- Each university can only submit one application. Cross-university team member(s), both undergraduate and postgraduate students, from the following universities are welcome. However, the Team Leader’s university will deem to represent his/her university for the competition.
- The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK)
- The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)
- The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK)
- Participants must form a project team of 2 to 4 students and submit the application form by 23:59, 14 February 2025 (Friday) through the application website: https://forms.office.com/r/ivufR4VFpf
(Participating project teams DO NOT need to submit proposals in the application stage).
- Each university can submit ONE entry only.
- The entry must be the students’ own work demonstrating their innovative concept, creative design/modelling, as well as its practicability and impact.
The proposed solution shall outline different innovation FinTech applications in GBA Area for new business initiatives or an enhancement plan for an existing project etc.
The solution should illustrate the following content:
- Need and potential areas for cross border business development or problem identification
- Current pain points/environment (if any)
- Proposed solution(s) (including format, timeline, operation details, budget, expected difficulties and solutions, etc.)
- Expected impact to the beneficiaries and/or an organization
Each team must submit a set of Powerpoint or slides with the following requirements:
- MUST be in PDF format
- Maximum 25-30 slides for 10-15 minutes
- Any text, images and videos can be included
- All presentation materials and the pitching will be conducted in English.
- Submitted electronically via the Proposal Submission Microsoft Form by 16 May 2025 23:59 (Friday).
- The judge panel reserves the right to shortlist the participating project teams for the Pitching Competition.
- Each (shortlisted) project team must send at least two members to attend the Pitching Competition to compete for the awards.
- A panel of judges will be appointed to assess the entries based on the following criteria:
- Innovativeness (25%)
- Relevance and impact (25%)
- Sustainability of the solution (25%)
- Pitching/Presentation skill (25%)
Each participant will be issued a Certificate of Achievement.
- Champion Cash Prize of HK$15,000 with Trophy
- 1st runner up Cash Prize of HK$10,000 with Trophy
- 2nd runner up Cash Prize of HK$5,000 with Trophy
- Merit Cash Prize of HK$3,000 with Trophy
- The results will be announced right after the Pitching Competition at the Award Presentation Ceremony.
- The awarded project teams must attend the Award Presentation Ceremony to receive the awards.
- The organizer reserves the right to reschedule the date of the Award Presentation Ceremony.
- The decision of the judge panel is final.
- The organizer reserves the right not to accept any application submitted in response to this Competition and the right to interpret, amend, supplement the terms and conditions in the guidelines.
- The organizer reserves the right to disqualify any team that violates the rules, conditions, or spirit of the Competition. In case of any dispute, any decision made by the organizer shall be final and conclusive.
- All materials submitted must be original work and must not contain any unauthorised use of copyrighted or proprietary materials of any person or entity.
- Any form of plagiarism will result in automatic disqualification. Use of thoughts or work of another source must be properly referenced.
